Sandbags: An Overlooked Prep

I found that sandbags tend to be one of the most overlooked preps when it comes to survivalists who are planning to bug in during TEOTWAWKI.
You may think of them as just bags full of sand but they are so much more!!!
When TSHTF they could even save you and your property from destruction.
For example, if a flood was to strike then you have a chance at keeping it at bay as long you have a good supply of sandbags to build a dike.

I actually know a guy who had a good number of his preps (which were stored in his garage) ruined by 8 inches of flood water.
His house was fine but the flood water had come pouring down his driveway straight into his garage and wham bam his preps (including electrical gear) where wiped out.
If he had some sandbags he could have at the very least slowed the water and bought himself time to move his stuff out.

Lesson learnt, last time I spoke to him he had bought 200 military grade sandbags and had enlarged his kids’ sandbox so that he has a good amount of sand on hand should he get flooded again.

Of course there is another use for sandbags.
Fortifying your house!!! Hell yeah!
Ok when I say that I don’t mean start doing it NOW (you might alarm the Doris next door).
What I mean is that if you have a good amount of sandbags on standby and good supply of sand then if TSHTF and society completely collapses you can fortify sensitive areas of your house and protect it (and yourself) from any bullets that may be heading in your direction.

Note: Make sure when you buy you sandbags you buy the synthetic type NOT the hessian/burlap type as the latter tends to rot and breakdown after only a couple of months.
The synthetic ones will last for years though.

Party Popper Perimeter Alarm System

Survival is all about creating something out of nothing.
Here’s a simple intrusion detection system I created consisting of string, a staple and a party popper.

You Will Need
. Fishing Line
. Knife
. Staple
. Hammer
. Party Poppers

Step 1:

Securely tie a length of fishing lines onto the end of the Party Popper string.

Step 2:

Hammer a staple into the door frame/wall.

Step 3:

Thread the other end of the fishing line through the staple and lightly tension(too much tension and the Party Popper will be triggered) by wrapping it around the door handle.
Securely tie it to door handle so it won’t undo once the tension is increased as the door is opened.

Now all that needs to happen is for someone to try and open the door and the party popper will go off.
And believe me, at night in a house one of these going off will give the intruder one hell of a fright and alert you to their presence.

This concept can be modified to suit your environment. You can rig it to a gate or have it set up as trip wires.
